Our Day On Rottnest Island
I wanted to share with you in more detail our day trip to Rottnest island.
As I mentioned before we spent our last day at Rottnest Island and it was the perfect little getaway. We took an early morning ferry from Fremantle across to Rotto which took about 30 minutes. Luckily for us the seas were fairly calm so it was a smooth ride across.
When we arrived it was like we were transported back in time as the island in relatively untouched. I loved the fact that no private vehicles are allowed on this island, which makes it very unique. The only modes of transport available are walking, bikes or the shuttle bus. We chose to hire bikes on the island and spent the morning biking around the island checking out the island's beaches, tunnels, lighthouses, salt lakes, and small marsupials named quokkas.
There are a total of 63 beaches and 20 bays on Rottnest (not that we visited all of them) and the water is just magical, its so blue and inviting. I wanted to try my hand at snorkeling so we hired some snorkeling kits in the afternoon and had a look at al the reefs and fish around Thompsons and Geordie bay. This was the first time I had snorkeled so it was an eye opening experience, one I fully enjoyed. If I was to return in the future I would look at doing the snorkeling tour organised by Charter 1 where they take you out and show you all the good spots including ship wrecks.
The rest of the day we simply spent relaxing at Geordie bay, swimming and basking in the sun. It was such a good day and an excellent change of pace from what we have experience all week. It didn't even feel like we were in Perth to be honest.
